About CISCO

CISCO Routing Logo
Cisco is the main equipment used on a wide area network (WAN). Cisco routers use tables and routing protocols that function as data traffic regulators. Data packages that arrive at the router, are checked and forwarded to the destination address. In order for the data packet to be received to get to its destination quickly, the router must process the data very precisely. For this reason, the Cisco Router uses the Central Processing Unit (CPU) as used in the computer to process the data traffic quickly. Like a computer, Cisco routers also have a number of types of memory namely ROM, RAM, NVRAM and FLASH, which are useful for helping the CPU work. Besides that it is also equipped with a number of interfaces to connect with the outside world and in and out of data. The operating system used by Cisco routers is the Internetwork Operating System (IOS).

The memory used by Cisco routers each has their own uses as follows:
  • ROM is useful for storing a bootstrap system that functions to manage the boot process and run the Power On Self Test (POST) and IOS images.
  • RAM is useful for storing running configurations and active IOS operating systems.
  • NVRAM is useful for storing initial configuration (start-up configuration).
  • FLASH is useful for storing IOS images. By using FLASH, the new IOS version can be obtained from the TFTP server without having to replace components in the router.

CISCO Routing History

In the early 1980s, there were married couples, Len and Sandy Bosack, who used to work in two different computer departments located at Stanford University. The couple is facing problems in making their computers communicate with each other. To overcome this problem, they created a gateway server in their living room that led to a simple way of making two departments communicate with each other with the help of the IP protocol. They founded Cisco Systems (with small c) in 1984, having a small commercial gateway server that brought a revolution in Networking. The company name was changed to Cisco Systems, Inc. in 1992. Advanced Gateway Server (AGS) was the first product marketed by the company. After this comes the Mid-Range Gateway Server (MGS), Compact Gateway Server (CSS), Integrated Gateway Server (IGS) and AGS +.

Finally created Cisco 4000, 7000, 2000 and 3000 series routers. This router is still there and improves every day. Cisco is the world leader when it comes to networking for the Internet. This company's product leads to the ease of accessing and transferring information regardless of time, place or platform differences. CCNA certification is the first certificate in the Cisco certification range and is a precursor to all Cisco certifications. The CCNA program was created to provide a solid foundation that is not only for Cisco Internetwork Operating System (IOS) and Cisco hardware, but also internetworking in general. To get a Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), Cisco makes a series of certifications, namely:
  • CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate)
  • CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional)
  • CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert)

CISCO Usability

Packet Tracer is usually used by Cisco Networking Academy students through Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification. Due to limitations on some features, this software is used only as a learning aid, not as a substitute for Cisco routers and switches. Packet Tracer allows students to design complex and large networks, which are often not feasible with physical hardware, because of costs. Packet Tracer is usually used by CCNA Academy students, because it is available to them for free.

CISCO Functionality

Its function is to design a system or network topology that will be applied to the real world / work, because if we design a computer network topology without the help of an application like this it can cost a lot. That's why Cisco makes this application so that people can learn without expensive costs.
