Satellite Communications

History of Satellites
As we know that satellites are one of the technologies that we have used in everyday life. Satellite is one of the technologies developed by world technology experts which was originally used for communication during warfare. The satellite was first launched in 1957 made by the Soviet Union named SPUTNIK 1. SPUTNIK 1 plays a role in identifying the layer of the Earth's atmosphere by measuring changes in its orbit and describing the data through radio signals from the Ionosphere layer.

Satellite

Is a space object that rotates following the rotation of the earth. Some types of satellites can be divided according to their functions and uses:
1. Weather Satellite
2. Communication Satellite
3. Satellite Science and Technology
4. Military satellites

How Satellite Works

As we discussed above, satellites function as data transmission media using certain frequencies emitted from stations on earth and then transmitted back to other hemispheres. The signal used is a straight line radio signal that can emit signals with very little resistance. The satellite orbit used is Geosynchronous which is located at an altitude of 36,000 KM with the assumption that from this height, the satellite can reach one third of the earth's surface.
Simply put, satellites relay signals sent from earth stations to be transmitted back to other earth stations at high speed. The satellite work process can be described as follows:

1. Satellite receives signals from earth stations (Up-Link)
2. Satellite strengthens the signal.
3. Satellite retransmits (Down-Link)
4. A delay process occurs due to the influence of the earth's atmosphere which slightly inhibits the propagation of radio signals.

Satellite Excellence
1. Wide coverage area
2. VSAT can be installed anywhere while still in satellite range
3. Connection can be done anywhere
4. Can broadcast easily.
5. Very easy to apply to areas that have a bad topology.

Satellite Weakness
1. The signal can be easily captured by the earth station
2. Prices are relatively expensive because of expensive equipment
